Cones are used to mark an approximately 35x35 meters playing field. It's divided into 9 equal squares to help the players to orient, harmonize their supporting movements and adjust the distances between them to be able to play with each other.
8 players can take part in the exercise for the optimal execution. Of course the game works with other number of players, however it can have affect on the size of the area and the number of squares.
Players are divided into 2 teams and they are identified with different colours. (red and blue now)

Description and Graphics

This is a ball possession game, but the players work in pairs, since each of them can only initiate an attack with ball or defend against his own opponent in 1v1 game situations.
The defender cannot tackle or block a player in possession of an other pair.
The following rules are determined during the game:

  • When a player gets the ball in a square, he has to feint to play out his opponent and dribble the ball to an other square to be able to play someone of his mates. It's a very difficult action, because his opponent tries to tackle and keeps him under pressure continuously. So the attacking player has to dribble at speed, and covers the ball well. During this, the other players of the possessor team have to support, break away from their defenders and create space to be playable.
  • However there's an other complicating factor, since the supporting player cannot get the pass in the same square where his mate dribbles the ball in, he has to move to another square. It's a very hard work for the players without ball to move fast and react on the various situations.

This is a complex exercise and it demands good quaility of technique skills and the high level of cognitive abilities.
Therefore the progression requires strong concentration so it's important for the players to perform the soccer drill with slow intensity at first and the coach should stop the game when it's needed.
When the game already works well, the coach must care for the resting time, since the intensity can rise to the top level.
