Support the Attack After Deep Passes
This small sided soccer exercise focuses on developing cooperation of the parts of team while attacking.
This soccer drill also emphasises practising the joining of the defenders or midfielders into attack after deep passes and helps to innervate attacking supporting runs.
Organisation
Cones are used to create the playing field as shown.
Mark a neutral zone in the middle of the pitch which splits the area into two zones.
Two red and two blue teams take part in the game. They play 5v5 game by turns. Players are arranged as shown, 3 defenders/midfielders are on the own half and 2 attackers are on the opponent's half.
Duration: 5 minutes
Description and Graphics
Offensive play: After short combination play the 3 defenders must outplay their 2 opponents in a 3v2 situation. One of the 3 defenders makes a deep pass to one of the 2 attackers, who moves back near the neutral zone. The attacker lays the ball off (or turns) to one of the 3 defenders, who must arrive from depth to the neutral zone. After the joining of the defender 3v3 situation works out in attack. After the finishing, the defender goes back to his own half. If the 2 attackers intercept the ball from the 3 defenders in 3v2 situation, one of their own defenders can join the attack too.
Variation
- After the deep pass the attacker can decide he lays the ball off to the defender arriving depth or he rolls with the ball.
