Winning the Second Balls - Attacking Transition
The aim of the game is winning the second ball after a long aerial pass and to start a fast counter attack, or a build up-play.
The emphasis is also laid on the fast combination play, anticipation and the attacking-defending transition.
Organisation
Cones are used to create an approximately 50x40 meters playing field.
One normal sized and two portable small goals are set up as shown.
Players are split into two teams, the strikers and attacking midfielders (blue) play against the defenders (white).
The teams play a 5v2 game, the attackers are in over-numbered situation.
The attackers and the defensive pairs can change after each action or 2-3 attacks.
The formation of the attacking team is 3-2 now, but it can be changed, the coach can decide the players' set up.
If the ball leaves the playing field too early, the coach can pass into the area a new one.
Description and Graphics
One of the resting players or the coach lobs the ball toward the two strikers. The game becomes 100% active, when the strikers or the defenders head back the ball. The main goal for the attacking team is to win the second ball, so the man to man struggle in the air is not so important. So, one player of the defenders or the attackers head back the lobbed ball, then the 5v2 game starts.
The three midfielders and the attackers must anticipate and position themselves the optimal way to be able to win the second ball to start a fast attack and finish the action.
If the defenders tackles or intercept a pass, they can pass the ball into one of the small goals.
